release time:2023/11/22

On November 18th, Agence France-Presse broadcasted a report titled "China's Rapid Impact in Central America", compiled as follows:
On the 14th, in the central area of the capital of El Salvador, San Salvador, President Naib Bukker unveiled a towering and spacious library, marking the latest sign of China's increasing influence in Central America.
Accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador, Buckle visited this 7-story building funded by China.
The government of El Salvador stated that the library has a total construction area of 24000 square meters and a collection capacity of over 360000 books, including entertainment and robotics areas, as well as interactive digital displays.
On the 15th, Laureno Ortega, the trade and investment advisor to the President of Nicaragua, attended the delivery ceremony of 250 Chinese made buses and expressed gratitude for the "special relationship" with Beijing, which he said is helping Nicaragua lift itself out of poverty.
Evan Ellis, a researcher at the Strategic Research Institute of the US Army Military Academy, said, "The new political situation in the region has increased China's influence and widened the gap between the United States and Central America
Since Costa Rica severed diplomatic relations with Taipei and established diplomatic relations with Beijing in 2007, China has made steady progress in Central America, establishing or restoring diplomatic relations with Panama (2017), El Salvador (2018), Nicaragua (2021), and Honduras (earlier this year).
Nicaragua approved a free trade agreement with China on the 16th, while El Salvador and Honduras are also seeking to reach their own trade agreements with this Asian giant.
Nicaraguan economist Enrique Saenz said, "China is very far away. Our production capacity is poor, and transportation costs and insurance rates make it difficult for us to compete on costs
However, although these small economies are not commercially important to China, they are located along important trade routes.
Panama is crucial due to its canal, and Chinese companies have participated in the construction of the shipping terminal for the waterway. China is the second largest customer of the Panama Canal, second only to the United States.
Former Deputy Foreign Minister of Panama, Luis Miguel Incapier, stated that China's largest banks have operations in the financial center of Panama, and dozens of Chinese companies operate in the Cologne Free Trade Zone.
Myers, an expert at the American Dialogue Research Center, emphasized that Central American countries are "an important market for Chinese technology exporters".
China is planning roads, airports, and energy projects in Nicaragua, and Laureano Ortega recently discussed the 5G technology plan after visiting telecommunications giant Huawei.
In addition to the library, China will also build a football field in El Salvador that can accommodate 50000 people. In addition, China will also build a shipping terminal along the Pacific coast.
