release time:2024/1/12

Maldives President Muiz will end his state visit to China on the 12th. During his visit to China, the two countries signed a number of bilateral cooperation documents on building the action plan of China Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership and jointly building the "the Belt and Road", disaster management, economy and technology, blue economy, digital economy, green development, infrastructure and people's livelihood. Mao Leopard, President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Maldives, analyzed to Global Times on the 11th that the development and cooperation of agricultural economic industrial parks between the two countries is expected to become another landmark livelihood project after the China Malaysia Friendship Bridge.
Mao Bao said that the China Malaysia Friendship Bridge project, which was frequently mentioned during Muiz's visit to China, is a landmark project for the two countries to jointly build the "the Belt and Road". It not only has a transformative impact on the lives of the Maldivian people, but also has played a huge role in the sustainable development of the Maldivian economy.
According to public information, the China Malaysia Friendship Bridge project was built with China's assistance, undertaken by China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd., and constructed by China Communications Second Navigation Bureau as the general contractor. The bridge connects the Maldivian capital Male, Airport Island, and Hulumale Island, with a total length of 2 kilometers. It was completed and opened on August 30, 2018.
The local project leader of China Communications Construction told Global Times reporters that as a world tourist destination, Maldives relies entirely on ships and seaplanes for transportation between its scattered islands, making travel extremely inconvenient. Owning a cross sea bridge has been a dream of the Maldivian people for many years. The timely completion of the China Malaysia Friendship Bridge has put an end to the history of Maldives without a sea crossing bridge. In the past 5 years, the traffic volume of the bridge has reached over 100 million people.

As President Muiz completes his first visit to China, the Maldivian people also hope that cooperation between Malaysia and China can continue to bear new fruits. The Joint News Communique between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Maldives, released on the 11th, stated that both sides are willing to actively promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, guide and encourage cooperation between enterprises of the two countries, and promote the healthy development of investment cooperation between the two sides; The Chinese side has stated that it will continue to provide support to the Malaysian side to the best of its ability in areas of priority concern, such as infrastructure construction, healthcare, people's livelihood improvement, new energy, agriculture, and marine environmental protection.

Mao Leopard told Global Times reporters that cooperation between China and Malaysia in the field of agriculture has great potential. Chinese enterprises can help Malaysia build and operate agricultural economic industrial park projects, deeply participate in the cultivation of scarce vegetable and fruit agricultural products such as onions and cabbage, and achieve large-scale aquaculture of tuna, freshwater fish, and other fish, helping Malaysia achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural products. Mao Leopard also mentioned that Maldives is actively deepening economic reform, vigorously promoting infrastructure construction, focusing on increasing the proportion of renewable energy, strengthening the protection of ecological environment and marine resources, and enriching the development of diverse tourism formats. China and Malaysia also have cooperation opportunities in these areas.
According to the Maldives National Television, Maldives hopes to open more direct flights with China to attract more Chinese tourists and believes that cooperation between the two countries will achieve more results.
