Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China and the United States reach a five point consensus

On April 26, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Beijing. The two sides reached five points of consensus on the basis of a comprehensive exchange of views.

Firstly, both sides agree to continue to work towards stabilizing and developing China US relations in accordance with the guidance of the two heads of state. Both sides acknowledge the positive progress made in dialogue and cooperation between China and the United States in various fields since the San Francisco meeting, and agree to accelerate the implementation of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state in San Francisco.

Secondly, both sides agree to maintain high-level exchanges and contacts at all levels. Continue to play the role of the restored and newly established consultation mechanisms in the fields of diplomacy, economy, finance, and commerce. Continue to carry out military to military exchanges. Further promote cooperation between China and the United States in drug control, climate change, and artificial intelligence.

Thirdly, both sides announced that they will hold the first meeting of the China US Government to Government Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence; Continue to advance the consultation on guiding principles for Sino US relations; Holding a new round of China US Asia Pacific Affairs Consultation and China US Ocean Affairs Consultation; Continue to carry out consular consultations between China and the United States. The China US Anti Drug Working Group will hold a high-level official meeting. The US welcomes China's special envoy on climate change, Liu Zhenmin, to visit the US.

Fourthly, both sides will take measures to expand cultural exchanges between the two countries, welcome international students from each other's countries, and host the 14th China US Tourism High Level Dialogue to be held in Xi'an, China in May.

Fifthly, both sides maintain consultations on international and regional hot topics, and their envoys strengthen communication.
