The "two-way rush" between China and the United States brings the "San Francisco vision" into reality

release time:2024/5/17

Both sides have reached more than 20 consensus and achievements in political diplomacy, economic and trade finance, cultural exchanges, global governance, military security, and other fields, opening up a "San Francisco vision" for the future, pointing out the direction and planning the blueprint for the development of China US relations.

Since the beginning of this year, China and the United States have maintained intensive interaction, releasing stronger positive signals. The parallel forum 2 of the 2024 Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit, held on May 13, focused on "Gathering the Power of the Business Community and Making the 'San Francisco Vision' a 'Reality'" for in-depth discussions, demonstrating the determination of the Chinese and American business communities to promote action through consensus and make the 'Vision' a 'Reality'.

Promote healthy competition among enterprises

In line with the common interests of both parties

Zhang Shaogang mentioned that according to the latest report just released by the American Chamber of Commerce in China, more than half of American companies still indicate that China is their preferred or top three major investment destination, more than 90% of companies express willingness to continue developing in China, and 77% of American companies indicate no intention of withdrawing from the Chinese supply chain or leaving the Chinese market. "This also fully reflects the general desire of American enterprises, which is the foundation for us to strengthen cooperation. We hope that in the business world of business, we can truly become a positive energy to promote the return of China US relations to the right track."

Noah Fraser, Senior Vice President of the National Committee on US China Trade in China, also agrees with this viewpoint. He believes that in the past forty or fifty years, despite the ups and downs in Sino US relations, "we have seen more positive prospects, and both sides hope to continue expanding friendly exchanges. With so many Chinese and American companies attending the conference, it is more important to demonstrate the relationship between China and the United States... Smooth supply chains and promoting communication and exchange between various industries are crucial."

Van Noah also mentioned, "We advocate for transparent and non discriminatory policies to promote healthy competition among businesses, which is also in the common interest of both parties."

In terms of cultural education, Fan Noah said, "China is very attractive in the field of education, and we have also seen many Chinese students studying in the United States. In the coming years, both sides need to enhance cooperation in education, create more opportunities for cooperation, and promote mutual communication and understanding between the two cultures."

Mutual benefit and win-win situation have become a consensus among Chinese and American enterprises

This has also become a consensus among the attending entrepreneurs.

John Lenhart, vice president of global government affairs of Wal Mart, said in his speech, "We see the resilience of China's economy and the potential of China's economy. The 28 year history of Wal Mart's entry into China is a model of mutual benefit and win-win between China and the United States."

Tesla Vice President Tao Lin introduced that this year is Tesla's tenth year in China. Now, China's new energy vehicles have ranked first in the world in production and sales for the ninth consecutive year. "I believe Tesla has made some contributions in this process. But more importantly, as a participant, Tesla has brought American technology or Tesla's electric vehicle concept to China, and has also driven the development of China's new energy vehicle industry." She said that more than 99.99% of Tesla's employees in China are Chinese, and the localization rate of Tesla's supply chain has reached over 95%.

When it comes to the "San Francisco Vision," Cargill's Vice President for Greater China, Liu Chang, starts by introducing the mascot chain Krypton of the China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo. "Its meaning is the industrial chain, connecting the upstream and downstream of the industry, connecting the supply chain, connecting enterprises and markets, connecting China and the world. In the current context of economic globalization, the international supply chain has already turned the world into a huge puzzle, in which everyone has their own roles and values, and has formed an inseparable and close connection. The link between China and the United States is a natural bond, and it is also very resilient."

How to make every link in the global supply chain like chain Krypton, so that everyone can keep smiling? Liu Chang believes that the answer is mutual benefit and win-win. "The business community is an important link and advocate for Sino US relations. We are willing to make our due contribution to promoting close cooperation in industry and commerce between China and the United States, and further promoting the healthy development of Sino US relations."

Xu Jun, Managing Director of General Electric Medical China, believes that the efficiency of Chinese factories and the diligence of Chinese employees are important prerequisites for General Electric to win a unique position globally. The win-win cooperation, two-way cooperation, and mutual achievements between China and the United States have become a reality in the medical industry. This reality can provide a better demonstration for the people and industry of China and the United States, and will play a more positive role in promoting the relationship between the two countries.

Yang Aiqing, CEO of JA Solar Technology, stated that there is an urgent need for the photovoltaic industry to make greater contributions due to extreme weather conditions in many parts of the world. "Although there is still uncertainty in the future, we believe that the future prospects of China US relations are very bright."

Zhao Jinquan, global director of Cushman&Wakefield and CEO of Greater China, pointed out that deepening mutual trust through dialogue and exchanges and jointly promoting mutually beneficial cooperation are the driving force for the development of China US relations. Further opening-up of China to the outside world is conducive to the high-quality development of the Chinese economy, as well as promoting the stable development of China US economic and trade relations and even global trade and supply chains.

"We also hope that everyone can work together, trust and benefit each other, to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, which will help open up a 'San Francisco vision' for the future and promote the realization of global common prosperity," said Zhao Jinquan.
