"The Summer Davos Forum provides a good opportunity to promote global innovation dialogue and will create new opportunities for sustainable development of the world economy," said Chen Liming, Chief Representative of the Greater China Region of the World Economic Forum, in an interview with our reporter.
In 2007, the first Summer Davos Forum was held in Dalian, China. This year marks the forum's return to Dalian after 5 years. Chen Liming said, "Compared to 5 years ago, the world we live in has undergone many changes. On the one hand, the series of risks caused by climate change, geopolitical conflicts, trade frictions, etc. have brought changes to the world today. On the other hand, human exploration of cutting-edge technology has never stopped, and artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum computing, energy transformation, and other fields have all made rapid development."
"Technological development is a key driving force for promoting current global economic growth. This forum, with the theme of 'New Frontiers of Future Growth', aims to jointly address the challenges brought by the constantly changing global landscape." Chen Liming said that at that time, about 1600 representatives from nearly 80 countries and regions in the political, business, academic, and media sectors will explore six major directions, including 'Global New Economy', 'China and the World', 'Entrepreneurial Spirit in the Age of Artificial Intelligence', 'New Frontiers of Industry', 'Investment in People', and 'Interconnection between Climate, Nature, and Energy'.
Chen Liming said that at this forum, conferences focusing on global and Chinese economic issues have received much attention, including exploring ways of cooperation in the current international landscape, China's economic outlook, seeking growth in complex risks, re laying global trade paths, and addressing the fragmentation of the global financial system. "China is a crucial participant in global affairs, and the forum hopes to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China to jointly build a better world."
The significant progress made by Chinese companies in innovation over the past few decades has left a deep impression on Chen Liming. Chen Liming stated that in the "2024 Technology Pioneers" list released by the World Economic Forum in June this year, 11 Chinese companies were listed, ranking second in the world in terms of quantity. The latest batch of 153 "lighthouse factories" announced by the World Economic Forum includes 62 Chinese companies, including high-tech enterprises such as photovoltaics and new energy vehicles. China is the country with the most "lighthouse factories" in the world. "This reflects that China is becoming a new engine driving global innovation. In recent years, China has led the world in innovative technologies and applications in fields such as new energy, mobile payments, and cross-border e-commerce. Through technology transfer, talent cultivation, and other means, China has shared its innovative achievements with different regions and countries, contributing to the global sustainable development process."
Chen Liming stated that based on factors such as resource endowment, technological level, and worker proficiency, China has greater competitive advantages in some industries. Some countries use sanctions to deal with trade disputes, which is not feasible and will not have a good effect. Instead, it will lead to a significant decrease in global economic efficiency, and the ultimate cost will be borne by consumers in each country. The development stage, industrial structure, infrastructure, supply chain, and other situations vary among countries, and it is necessary to strengthen international trade exchange.
