In the first seven months of this year, Shanghai Port imported and exported 5.43 billion yuan of agricultural products from Africa, a year-on-year increase of 18%.

South Africa is located at the southernmost tip of the African continent, with unique climatic conditions nurturing a wide variety of tropical fruits, making it the world's second-largest exporter of citrus. Every summer, the sales of citrus fruits in China gradually come to an end, while citrus fruits, oranges, and grapefruits produced in South Africa begin to mature and enter the market, filling the gap period for citrus fruits in China. Recently, at the designated supervision site for imported fruits in the Waigaoqiao Port Area of Shanghai, a batch of 46 tons of fresh grapefruits from South Africa were successfully released after customs inspection.
To assist in the safe and efficient customs clearance of high-quality agricultural products from Africa, we have established a 'Green Channel for African Agricultural Products Imported to China', providing a series of convenient customs clearance measures such as priority inspection, fast inspection and release. On the premise of strictly implementing plant quarantine and supervision requirements, we will conduct immediate and fast inspection to ensure that qualified imported fruit products from Africa are released into the market as soon as possible. In the first eight months of this year, a total of 6366 tons of imported fruits from South Africa were inspected and released by the import and export customs, mainly including grapefruit, orange, pear, apple, etc.
Yangshan Customs officers carry out supervision work on imported mineral products from Africa. The facilitation measures of customs clearance continue to release policy benefits, promoting the acceleration and increase of African mineral product imports. In the first seven months of this year, Yangshan Customs, a subsidiary of Shanghai Customs, supervised a total of 33000 tons of imported mineral products in containers produced and sold by African countries, a year-on-year increase of 169.7%.
While a large number of African products are imported, mechanical and electrical products are also one of the main commodities exported by Shanghai Port to Africa. It is reported that in the first seven months of this year, the cumulative export of mechanical and electrical products at Shanghai Port was 68.39 billion yuan, accounting for 57.4% of the total export value.
