release time:2024/12/5

Guangzhou, December 4th (Xinhua) - The 2024 "Understanding China" International Conference was held in Guangzhou from December 2nd to 4th. With the theme of "carrying out reform to the end - Chinese path to modernization and new opportunities for world development", the conference once again built a bridge for the world to understand China's economic development vision.

During the meeting, Chinese and foreign guests held a heated discussion on the role of Chinese path to modernization in promoting global economic development and its important impact on the modernization process of other countries in the world.

Chinese path to modernization is closely linked with the world

Zheng Bijian, founding president and academic committee chairman of the China National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association, stated at the conference that the peaceful development and globalization of the world are opportunities for China, while China's reform and development are opportunities for the world. China will never pursue a closed and self reliant modernization.

China adheres to the path of peaceful development unswervingly, welcomes other countries in the world to actively participate in the construction of Chinese path to modernization with an open attitude, and regards China's reform and development as an opportunity for common development of all countries in the world.

Former Egyptian Prime Minister Isam Sharaf also wrote an article praising China's "peaceful" culture, believing that China's cultural values are closely aligned with the values needed to build a community with a shared future for mankind, namely promoting trust, peace, and development. At this meeting, he took the initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" as an example, and highly praised the many development opportunities that China's modernization development has provided for the world.

He said that under the framework of the "the Belt and Road" initiative, China has signed more than 200 cooperation agreements with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations, forming a pattern of opening up in a wider range, broader fields and deeper levels. This initiative has initiated over 3000 major collaborative projects, driven nearly trillions of dollars in investment, and created hundreds of thousands of job opportunities. From the perspective of providing investment, concluding projects, and creating employment opportunities for the world, China is far ahead of other countries.

High level opening-up injects momentum into the development of the world economy

Zheng Yongnian, Chairman of the Guangzhou Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Research Institute, pointed out in his speech that China's opening-up to the outside world is based on rules and should not underestimate the ability of global capital or the power of China's opening-up policy to reshape the global trade system.

In his speech, he mentioned that in recent years, China has continuously expanded its unilateral visa free "circle of friends", increased efforts to introduce foreign investment, and continuously relaxed the entry threshold. At present, China has fully lifted restrictions on foreign investment access in the manufacturing sector. He believes that China's unilateral opening up is open to the whole world, including developed and developing countries. These measures are sufficient to demonstrate that China is a key force in promoting open and inclusive international cooperation.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Abbasi is also a witness to China's development achievements. Since 1978, he has visited China multiple times and witnessed the tremendous changes brought about by the reform and opening-up policy.

Over the past few decades, Shahid Abbasi has observed that China's economy has maintained high-speed growth, becoming the world's second-largest economy and making significant contributions to global economic growth, making it the strongest engine driving the world economy.

Global sharing of achievements in scientific and technological innovation and environmental protection development

Wu Yin, former deputy director of the National Energy Administration, academic advisor and researcher of the China Energy Research Association, mentioned in her keynote speech that China's new energy innovation is rapidly benefiting the world, with wind and photovoltaic products covering more than 200 countries and regions worldwide. The International Energy Agency believes that the global energy market is entering the "electricity era" led by China. The Director General of the International Energy Agency, Birol, once bluntly stated that almost all the good energy stories in the world today are Chinese stories.

Wu Yin stated that the development of clean and renewable energy has become a global consensus. As the world's largest energy producer and consumer, China is actively following this trend and promoting the transformation of its energy structure towards a clean and low-carbon direction. Looking ahead to the future, China's path of new energy innovation focuses on global sharing of achievements and will share development dividends with the world.

Zafar Uddin Mahmud, Chairman of the Pakistan "Understanding China" Forum, shared that China provides impetus for global development. Among billions of people worldwide, almost everyone has used Chinese products, indicating that China has a huge impact on the world economy.

Taking Pakistan as an example, with the rapid development of Chinese technology, smartphones, video calls, and WeChat have entered the lives of "Pakistani iron" friends. Chinese made mobile phones are affordable and the threshold for technical services has been greatly reduced, attracting Pakistani consumers to purchase. Similarly, the development of photovoltaic products and new energy vehicles has also benefited the world. Even in remote Kenya, local taxis are electric vehicles from China, which are affordable and environmentally friendly. (End)
