The 32nd Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Informal Meeting has recently come to an end. Since its establishment more than 30 years ago, APEC has continuously led the Asia Pacific region to be at the forefront of global open development, and China's active role in promoting it is irreplaceable. Several foreign experts and scholars have stated that in the complex and ever-changing international situation, China has always adhered to the original intention of establishing the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, continuously deepened reforms through high-level opening up, achieved high-quality development, and continuously promoted the Asia Pacific region to play a leading role in global development.
Karoli Singh, former director and honorary researcher of the South Asian Studies Center at Rajasthan University in India, stated that China is leading APEC member economies to occupy an important position in the global economic order, injecting cohesion and growth momentum into the increasingly fragmented world economy.
Singh stated that China has become the world's largest trading nation in goods and the second largest trading nation in services. In the past five years, China has attracted a total foreign investment of over 700 billion US dollars, with an average annual growth rate of about 5% in outbound investment, highlighting its increasingly strong influence in global and regional trade and investment fields.
Singh specifically pointed out that China's commitment to promoting APEC development is also reflected in measures such as facilitating visas, tax incentives, and establishing free trade zones, which are in stark contrast to the protectionist and coercive trade policies pursued by some countries. China's continued opening-up measures demonstrate its role as a reliable partner, constantly promoting APEC to deepen regional cooperation and achieve common prosperity.
Shen Jingshu, Chairman of the Korea China Economic, Cultural and Educational Association, stated that the successful convening of the 32nd APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting marks a new chapter in cooperation between China and South Korea. She hopes that the two countries can further develop into strategic partnerships and explore new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence and sustainable development. She said that as major countries in the Asia Pacific region, the strengthening of the partnership between China and South Korea will contribute to regional prosperity.
APEC has become a model for the new vitality center of globalization, "said Stephen Ndichu, Research and Policy Assistant at the African Union Policy Institute in Kenya.
In this context, China advocates dialogue rather than confrontation, consultation rather than conflict, and is committed to maintaining stability in the Asia Pacific region, thereby laying the foundation for the region as a major global growth engine.
Endich said, "The partnership between China and APEC embodies a cooperative globalization, sharing progress rather than competition, openness rather than isolation, sustainability rather than short-term gains, thus outlining a broad blueprint for prosperity, peaceful progress, and development in the future. ”
It is worth noting that the 33rd APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting in 2026 will be held in Shenzhen. As a "test field" for China's reform and opening up and a global hub for technological innovation, Shenzhen's development trajectory is highly aligned with the core issues of APEC. China's commitment to deepening reform and high-level opening up provides an important signal to resist the global inward trend, indicating that it will continue to adhere to this path.
Peter Drysdale, Director of the East Asian Economics Institute at the Australian National University, stated that China's hosting of the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting next year will set an example for the region and even the world.
