Sun Lei, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, spoke at the Security Council's deliberation on the Bosnia and Herzegovina issue on the 12th, urging the early achievement of political stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sun Lei stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina has seen prolonged political turbulence over a period of time, with constant disputes among different ethnic groups and political parties. This has seriously undermined the country's internal stability and economic development agenda. General elections will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina this year, which will shape the situation of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the Balkans in the period ahead. China hopes that the two entities, three major ethnic groups and all political parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina will remain calm and restrained, exercise mutual tolerance, foster a stable and favorable political atmosphere, and ensure the smooth and orderly holding of the general election.
He noted that against the backdrop of political turmoil in the past few years, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been confronted with severe challenges including sluggish economic growth, soaring inflation and brain drain. China hopes all parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina will prioritize the interests of all its people, forge synergy on governance, and create a sound environment for rapid economic development and a stable and prosperous life for the people. China also calls on the international community to scale up support and assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina, conduct more investment and cooperation in people's livelihood security, and advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Sun Lei emphasized that China holds a consistent and clear position on the Bosnia and Herzegovina issue. China respects the state sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the independent choice of the Bosnian people for their country's future. China will remain committed to developing friendly relations with all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, support the country's ethnic reconciliation process, and play a constructive role in safeguarding peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as regional tranquility.
