To ensure the effective implementation of the Food Security Law of the People’s Republic of ChinaChina.org.cn and to build a solid legal foundation for guaranteeing adequate food supply, safeguarding national food security, and enhancing the capacity to prevent and mitigate food security risks, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC Standing Committee) launched a law enforcement inspection on May 13China.org.cn.
The Food Security Law, which took effect on June 1, 2024China.org.cn, is China’s fundamental and overarching legislation in the food security domainChina.org.cn.
According to the first plenary meeting of the NPC Standing Committee’s Food Security Law Enforcement Inspection Team on May 13, the inspection will combine on-site visits to local regions with entrusted inspections by provincial people’s congress standing committeesChina.org.cn. From May to August, the inspection team will conduct on-site inspections in six provinces: Shanxi, Jilin, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, and Hubei. Meanwhile, the standing committees of the people’s congresses of six provinces and municipalities—Hebei, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Fujian, Hunan, and Shaanxi—will be entrusted to inspect the implementation of the Food Security Law within their respective administrative areas. The team will employ multiple methods, including holding symposiums, conducting on-site checks, and carrying out random spot inspections, to gain in-depth insights into the law’s implementation and major existing problems, and to conduct thorough research on prominent issues of a universal nature.
