Regarding recent statements from some U.S. officials indicating their support for a bill pushed by the late U.S. Senator Lin Jiatun to sanction Russian oil buyers, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a regular press conference on the 15th that China firmly opposes illegal unilateral sanctions without a basis in international law or authorization from the UN Security Council, and will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises and citizens. Applying double standards and coercion will ultimately only backfire.
