Foreign Ministry: China urges Japan to expedite the process of disposing of abandoned chemical weapons.

release time:2026/8/28

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a regular press conference on the 28th that the Japanese government lacks sincerity and commitment in fulfilling its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and in the complete destruction of abandoned chemical weapons, resulting in serious delays in the disposal process. Eliminating the serious harm caused by abandoned chemical weapons is an unavoidable historical responsibility and international legal obligation that the Japanese government must shoulder. China urges the Japanese government to fulfill its obligations, face up to the just demands of its own citizens and neighboring countries affected by the disaster, fully and faithfully implement the provisions of international conventions and the Sino-Japanese memorandum of understanding, accelerate the disposal process of abandoned chemical weapons, and restore a clean environment for the Chinese people as soon as possible.
