The EU Rapid Notification System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has recently reported the situation of Chinese products in the 39th week of 2020, including the discovery of unauthorized genetically modified ingredients in two batches of rice products exported to the UK.
This is not the first time that genetically modified ingredients have been detected in rice products exported from China.
In 2013 alone, 25 Chinese rice exports to the European Union were found to contain GENETICALLY modified ingredients. This year, for example, a batch of hotpot rice cakes also shipped to Britain on August 10th were tested genetically modified. On June 24, rice noodles imported into Europe were tested genetically modified...
With the emergence of GM ingredients in rice products in China for many times in recent years, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan has issued notice No. 0701 on the importation of Chinese rice products and papaya products, the implementation of imported GM inspection measures, inspection frequency for each import should be preserved and inspected the goods.
According to the data, rice flour occupies an important position in rice products. It is a large quantity of exquisite food after rice processing. Because of its good taste, convenient to eat, low price and easy to store, it has always been one of the main pasta that people like.
China's rice flour production not only meets the domestic demand, but also exports to the world, mainly sold to Asia, Europe and North America. Up to now, China's rice noodle market is about 100 billion yuan, with an annual output of about 1 million tons.
However, since 2006, China's rice products have frequently been caught in the STORM of GM. Subsequently, in 2007, China's relevant departments issued a notice, requiring that every batch, every variety and every specification of rice flour exported to EU member states should provide the test results without GM ingredients.
According to the daily grain and oil monitoring of global TRANSGENIC research trends, so far, no country in the world has allowed the commercial cultivation of GENETICALLY modified rice.
China's first "impulse" for genetically modified rice appeared at the beginning of this century.
The earliest genetically modified rice in China was in 2003, when the ministry of Agriculture, then the competent agricultural authority, approved 2,000 mu of farmland for the production test of insect-resistant genetically modified rice, in which hundreds of farmers participated. It issued two safety certificates for the quality of gm rice in 2009, but did not approve commercial cultivation until the certificates expired.
However, the illegal spread of GENETICALLY modified rice seeds was first reported in the market interview of CCTV's News Investigation in April 2014.
It is worth noting that in 2018 the United States food and drug administration (FDA) for our research and development of genetically modified varieties "HuaHui 1" rice to complete the related consulting services, in the domestic think it as "HuaHui number one" and its derived varieties of rice and rice products export American market opened the legal channels at the same time, however awkward, found that up to now still not yet received any country to allow the commercial varieties of rice planting.
It is worth noting that, according to the information we have received, since the planting of GM rice/corn/wheat/soybean is prohibited in China, few GM testing items are tested in advance except for soybean in the relevant quality inspection standards for acquisition.
It is only in recent years that more and more genetically modified maize has been tested.
