Relying on the advantages of vegetable industry, Shandong continues to lead the country in agricultural product export

As a major export province of agricultural products, Shandong has made full use of its advantages in vegetable industry since this year to promote the export of agricultural products with measures such as cultivating agricultural product agglomeration areas and creating shandong's advantageous brands. The export volume is expected to reach a new high, leading the country for 22 consecutive years.

Cabbage, cabbage and other open-air vegetables are in season. In Anqiu city of Weifang, Shandong province, known as "China's first vegetable export county", a large number of cabbages were packed and loaded by Anqiu Huihai Food Co., Ltd. and shipped abroad. Cabbages alone were exported to Japan and South Korea over 800 tons in the first 10 months of this year, up 25 percent from the same period last year. In the first quarter of this year, vegetable exports fell sharply due to the coVID-19 outbreak. In particular, the fresh vegetables export encountered inspection and quarantine problems make the company difficult. The local government promptly helped the enterprises to optimize their production processes and change their business thinking to produce refined vegetable products. As a result, cabbage exports increased and the price rose to 2,500 yuan per ton from 1,400 yuan in the same period last year.

In the first three quarters of this year, Shandong's agricultural exports reached 91.1 billion yuan, up 4.5 percent from the same period last year, accounting for 23.9 percent of the country's total agricultural exports and 1.1 percentage points higher than the same period last year. Vegetables have been the main export commodities of Shandong province in recent years. As daily necessities, vegetable consumption has been relatively unaffected by the epidemic. With the advantage of vegetable planting scale and long-term and stable international cooperation, the export volume and value of vegetables increased by 8.2% and 7.1% respectively in the first three quarters, contributing 38% to the export of agricultural products of Shandong province in the first three quarters.

This year, in response to the decline in foreign orders and the decline in export volume during the epidemic, Shandong has guided agricultural product processing enterprises to stabilize their confidence and exploit the international market with the help of platform carriers. We will encourage agricultural export enterprises to diversify their export markets through international exhibitions, marketing networks and other channels. At the same time, we will give play to the role of demonstration zones for the quality and safety of export agricultural products, increase the added value of export agricultural products, and constantly meet the needs of foreign markets.
