With the booming "non-contact" industry, South Korea is vigorously developing robot education and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Many traditional industries in South Korea have come under pressure since the outbreak in 2020. In the first and second quarters of 2020, Korea's real GROSS domestic product (GDP) was negative. The Bank of Korea has cut its GDP growth forecast for this year for three consecutive times. To ease the impact of the epidemic, the South Korean government has launched an economic development plan called the "New Deal for South Korea". It plans to invest more than $100 billion in the next five years, focusing on promoting the digital economy and the green economy.
Intelligent robots will be more widely used in daily life. A group of robot "teachers" can be seen using social software for orthodox elderly residents at a cultural center for the elderly in Mudong, Seoul. These ai robots carry special programs that can interact with people in real time for long periods of time.
This is a contactless education environment that Seoul is piloting. Han Du-hwan, director of business development at Seoul's Digital Consortium, said face-to-face classes were limited by the epidemic, but using robots not only reduces the risk of infection but also enables repetitive teaching, making them ideal for the elderly.
He said he plans to offer the service free of charge to 3,000 senior citizens in Seoul by the end of the year. And gradually enrich the functions, such as the development of telephone fraud education software.
The drone industry is also on the fast track. In November, more than 300 drones created a light show in the night sky of Seoul to pay tribute to the health care workers fighting the epidemic. In Seoul, Daegu and other places, the "air taxi" has been successively tested.
Kim Seong-do, head of the Aviation policy office of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Communications, told reporters that this is not only a visual banquet, but is to improve autonomous flight and other core technologies, which will be promoted to more industrial applications in the future.
According to the plan of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Communications, 10 "uav demonstration cities" will be built in South Korea to promote the use of drones in areas such as logistics distribution and smart cities. And some enterprises to provide subsidies to support local uav enterprises.
Public information shows that by June 2020, the scale of South Korea's uav industry has exceeded 450 billion won.
