Indian Foreign Minister: India is ready to export wheat to make up for global shortage

release time:2022/4/28

According to the satellite news agency New Delhi on April 26, Indian Foreign Minister Su Jiesheng said that India can act as a wheat exporter to make up for the global shortage caused by the situation in Ukraine.
"We see that one of the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine has been reflected in energy prices, food shortages and food inflation. India can change the current situation by intervening in agricultural exports, especially wheat exports," Su Jiesheng said at the risina dialogue forum held in New Delhi
Sujiesheng pointed out that India is now "trying to figure out how we can provide more wheat to make up for the global shortage."
"Of course, there are some WTO restrictions, but the situation at this time is very special. We hope the WTO can see the same," Su Jiesheng said
It is reported that last week, the Egyptian Ministry of agriculture and land reclamation approved India as a source country of wheat imports. After the Ukrainian crisis led to a rise in global prices, the prices of a series of food products in Egypt also began to rise in March. The Egyptian cabinet has issued a decree to control the price of subsidized bread and non subsidized bread. In addition, the Egyptian government also banned the export of all kinds of edible oil, corn, wheat, flour and beans and a range of other products for three months. Russia is Egypt's main wheat supplier. Before the conflict began, Cairo also imported a large amount of food from Ukraine.
According to Thomson Ferri, spokesman of the United Nations World Food Program, the conflict in Ukraine may lead to rising global food prices and global hunger.
