Xinhua Review: Promoting the Stability and Improvement of Sino US Relations

release time:2023/6/21

As one of the most important bilateral relations in the world, the direction of China US relations is moving the world's attention. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to China is an important high-level interaction between China and the United States recently, which shows the common will of the two countries to return to the consensus of the China US dollar summit in Bali, and releases a positive signal that bilateral relations have stopped declining and stabilized.
But since the beginning of this year, China US relations have been impacted by the unmanned airship incident, as well as the impact of Tsai Ing wen's "transit" to the United States. In addition, the US has continuously taken wrong words and actions that harm China's interests, leading to a serious deviation from the track determined by the two heads of state, seriously disrupting the agenda for dialogue and cooperation between the two sides, and seriously damaging the hard-earned momentum for improving bilateral relations.
China and the United States are two major powers, and neither side can change or replace each other. Harmony benefits both, while conflict harms both, and it can cause harm to the whole world. Recently, the willingness of the United States to look forward and achieve a turnaround in bilateral relations is worthy of recognition. The stability and improvement of Sino US relations are in line with the general expectations of the international community.
Promoting the stability and improvement of China US relations is responsible to the people of both countries. The close social connections and deep integration of interests between China and the United States are already self-evident. A large number of objective facts and data indicate that the will of the Chinese and American people is cooperation, and the driving force of Sino US cooperation is win-win. Fighting trade, industry, and technology wars and using the name of "de risk" to achieve "decoupling" does not make the United States safer or in line with its interests. The relationship between China and the United States should not be a zero sum game where you lose and you win, and where you rise and fall. The success of each country is an opportunity rather than a challenge for each other. The vast Earth is fully capable of accommodating the development and common prosperity of China and the United States.
Promoting the stability and improvement of China US relations is responsible for the entire world. The root cause of the low point in China US relations is that the US side holds a wrong understanding of China, leading to incorrect policies towards China. The world is getting better, and major countries should set an example. One is the largest developing country in the world today, and the other is the largest developed country in the world today. China and the United States share important responsibilities in promoting world peace and prosperity. Whether the two countries can coexist correctly is related to the well-being of people around the world. In the century long upheaval of the world, the shared responsibilities and interests between China and the United States have not decreased, but rather increased. To handle the relationship between China and the United States well is to contribute to global peace and development, injecting stability, certainty, and constructiveness into a world intertwined with turmoil.
Promoting the stability and improvement of China US relations is a responsibility for history. More than 50 years ago, the leaders of the two countries insisted on seeking common ground while reserving differences, finding common interests between countries with different systems, ending 22 years of hostile isolation, and promoting a win-win situation for China, the United States, and the world.   I hope that the United States, together with China, will stand on the right side of history.
China's development is not about challenging or replacing the United States, nor is it based on the United States
