Promoting Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Gulf Countries through Technological Innovation

In the context of slowing global economic growth, Gulf countries value China's positive role in promoting global economic recovery and multilateral trade cooperation, and actively engage in economic and trade cooperation with China, bringing more opportunities for the region to break free from the impact of the epidemic, regain economic development momentum, and achieve economic transformation for various countries.
In recent years, China and Gulf countries have engaged in comprehensive industrial docking in manufacturing, construction machinery, industrial internet platforms, and other fields, as well as all-round cooperation in digital economy, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, 5G, and other fields. Especially, the cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and China in the high-tech field has shown a positive trend. At the same time, China has a large number of projects landing in Gulf countries. It is understood that recently China Energy Engineering Corporation Co., Ltd. signed a series of cooperation agreements with well-known Saudi multinational companies such as Saudi ACWA Power, ALJOMAIH and so on, to further promote cooperation in various fields such as city construction, new energy, desalination, strategic water storage, water transmission pipeline network, etc. in Saudi Arabia and even in the world's third market.
The Arab Yellow Book: Arab Development Report (2022) recently released by Beijing Language and Culture University and Social Sciences Academic Press pointed out that under the framework of the "the Belt and Road Initiative", China has further expanded its investment in ports, infrastructure construction and transportation in Gulf countries. With the increasing trade exchanges between China and Gulf countries, in order to facilitate the timely sales of products exported by China to the region and the world, China and the United Arab Emirates have jointly built the Halifa Port Phase II Container Terminal, making it one of the important hub ports in the Gulf region and a landmark project for cooperation between China and Gulf countries. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait in 2021, all the main works of the Muthra housing infrastructure project constructed by China for Kuwait have been handed over. In April 2020, China State Shipbuilding Corporation signed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier construction project agreement with Qatar Petroleum Corporation with a total amount of 20 billion yuan. In October 2021, China State Shipbuilding Corporation won the first four carrier orders from Qatar. At the same time, to support Iraq's national reconstruction, China has increased investment in infrastructure, including electricity, water conservancy, transportation, and communication facilities. Overall, China's economic and trade cooperation with Gulf countries has provided more impetus and support for the economic recovery and transformation of Gulf countries.
The report points out that Gulf countries are committed to changing their development methods, and technological innovation plays an increasingly important role in economic transformation and upgrading. In order to achieve this long-term strategy, some Gulf countries have proposed the long-term goal of promoting development through technological innovation, which is consistent with China's development strategy of promoting industrial upgrading through technological innovation.
