From July 25 to August 1, Muhammad Ilfan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 31st Summer Universiade in Chengdu and visit China. On July 31st, the high-level dialogue meeting of the China Guyana Joint Council for Trade and Development was held in Beijing. President Ali of President of Guyana attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech.
Ali stated that with the strong promotion of the oil and gas industry, Guyana's development prospects are promising. Last year, the economic growth rate of Guyana reached 62.3%, making it the fastest growing economy in the world. It is expected that the annual economic growth rate will be 25% from 2023 to 2026. The Gui government attaches great importance to attracting foreign investment, developing foreign trade, improving infrastructure construction, and is committed to enhancing industrial competitiveness, promoting economic diversification and sustainable development, and enhancing people's well-being. Guyuan is rich in forestry, minerals, energy, agriculture, tourism and other resources, and is willing to further strengthen practical cooperation in economic and trade fields with China to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Guyana is a member state of the Caribbean Community and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and start business in Guyana, and to expand to more Caribbean countries through Guyana.
Ren Hongbin, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, delivered a speech stating that Guyana is blessed with unique natural resources and is known as the "granary of the Caribbean". The economies of China and Guyana are highly complementary. In 2018, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly build the "the Belt and Road", adding new impetus to the rapid development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
The business community is a new force and vanguard in promoting practical cooperation between China and Guyana, as well as a builder and beneficiary of the development of China Guyana relations. In order to leverage the role of the business community and further deepen practical economic and trade cooperation between China and Guyana, Ren Hongbin proposed three suggestions:
One is to deeply tap the growth potential of bilateral trade. Guyana is rich in energy, minerals, agriculture, forestry, and fishery resources. We hope that enterprises from both countries can work together to promote more high-quality and distinctive products from Guyana to enter the Chinese market, create more new trade highlights and growth points, and continuously expand the scale of bilateral trade.
The second is to unleash the investment and cooperation momentum of enterprises between the two countries. Chinese enterprises can fully leverage their advantages in capital, technology, management experience, and other areas to expand investment cooperation in Guyana in energy, mining, finance, agriculture and fisheries, and promote local economic and social development. At the same time, China also welcomes willing and capable Guyanese enterprises to invest and prosper in China.
The third is to improve infrastructure connectivity. With the sustained economic and social development, Guyana is facing the urgent need to constantly improve the level of infrastructure, while Chinese enterprises have rich experience and strength in infrastructure construction. We encourage competent and reputable Chinese enterprises to participate in Guyana's Digital transformation, urban planning and other infrastructure projects to drive local employment, increase the well-being of the people and promote sustainable development.
Ren Hongbin expressed that the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade is willing to make greater contributions to promoting exchanges and cooperation between the business communities of the two countries, and welcomes the Gui side to attend the first China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo.
In the recommendation process of the Chain Expo, Lin Shunjie, Chairman of China Exhibition Group, expressed his belief that through the communication on the Chain Expo platform, Guyana enterprises can better understand China's leading enterprises and upstream and downstream supporting enterprises in the five key supply chains and supply chain service exhibition areas of smart cars, green agriculture, clean energy, digital technology, and healthy life, so as to accurately introduce suitable Chinese investors. For example, in the field of green agriculture, China and Paraguay have good prospects for cooperation. Currently, China is entering the era of great health. Chinese consumers attach great importance to food safety and peace of mind, and pay attention to consumption in the health field. Guyana attaches great importance to green agricultural production methods and natural green production environment, which has created excellent quality of Guyana's agricultural and animal husbandry products. This is very consistent with the values of Chinese consumers. Guyana's agriculture, animal husbandry Fishery and food companies have more opportunities than ever to expand their market share in China. Relevant Guyana companies can gain more opportunities for cooperation upstream and downstream of the supply chain by demonstrating strict quality control systems and efficient supply chain management capabilities at the Chain Expo.
At the dialogue meeting, Chinese enterprises showed strong interest and willingness in expanding cooperation between China and Guyana. Chinese entrepreneurs asked questions to Alibaba, mainly focusing on the convenience of work visa processing, Guyana's investment environment, preferential policies to encourage foreign investment, and digital technology cooperation.
Ali stated that the investment of Chinese enterprises has contributed an important force to Guyana's economic growth and social development, and Guyana will support all foreign investments that are beneficial to the well-being of the Guyanese people and enhance the commercial relations between China and Guyana. At the same time, we look forward to further deepening the economic and trade cooperation between Guyana and China through the platform of the Chain Expo.
It is reported that representatives of Chinese enterprises from energy and minerals, infrastructure, transportation, machinery, information technology, trade and other fields interacted and exchanged ideas with officials of the Guyana government at the meeting, and communicated with the business community of Guyana attending the meeting. More than 130 government officials, business representatives, and media representatives from both countries attended the meeting.
