Artificial intelligence is not an exclusive patent of major powers, still less should it devolve into competition and confrontation

At a regular press conference on June 5, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said in response to questions that artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming modes of production and daily life and poses a new issue requiring collective efforts of humanity to address. Artificial intelligence is not a proprietary preserve of major powers, nor should it degenerate into competition and confrontation. China will host the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference alongside the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai this July. We hope to take the conference as an opportunity to conduct in-depth exchanges and dialogue with all relevant parties, strengthen global governance of artificial intelligence, and advance AI development for the wellbeing of all mankind.
