China urges all parties to strictly abide by the sanctions imposed by the Central African Republic.

On September 29, Sun Lei, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, delivered an explanatory statement after the Security Council adopted a resolution extending the authorization for sanctions against the Central African Republic, calling on all parties to strictly abide by the relevant sanctions measures.

   He said that China welcomes the Security Council's unanimous adoption of the resolution extending the authorization for sanctions against the Central African Republic. In recent years, with the support of the international community, the government and people of the Central African Republic have overcome difficulties and made significant progress in political transition, peace process, and national governance. The domestic security situation is generally stable, and the country's development has entered a new chapter. At the same time, some regions still face armed attacks and cross-border security challenges. Maintaining existing measures such as arms embargoes, asset freezes, and travel bans against armed groups and individuals will help the Central African Republic government curb illegal armed groups, advance the domestic reconciliation process, and expand and consolidate security achievements. China calls on all parties to strictly abide by the relevant sanctions measures, especially to prevent the importation of external weapons and ammunition and reduce the spillover effects of conflicts in the surrounding region.

   He said that as a good friend of the Central African Republic, China firmly supports the country's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and is willing to continue to work with the international community to support the country in achieving lasting peace, stability, and prosperity as soon as possible.

   The Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2827 on the 29th, extending the mandate for sanctions against armed groups and individuals in the Central African Republic for another year, until July 31, 2027; and extending the mandate for the panel of experts assisting in the implementation of sanctions until August 31, 2027.
