On July 31, the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations held a briefing at UN Headquarters regarding the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence.

Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that President Xi Jinping, at the opening ceremony of the conference, systematically and comprehensively proposed Chinese solutions regarding the global AI governance system, the people-centered and benevolent principles, helping the Global South narrow the intelligence gap, the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, and support for the UN's global AI governance process, making significant contributions to global AI governance. China will uphold the principles of open source, openness, win-win cooperation, and joint consultation, construction, and sharing, and will work with all parties on the broad platform of the United Nations to discuss and plan major issues concerning the future global governance of AI.

Gill, UN Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, stated that the World Artificial Intelligence Conference is of milestone significance and expressed hope that the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization will closely coordinate and cooperate with the United Nations. Song Haitao, a member of the UN Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, shared his impressions of the conference.

On July 16, 29 countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe signed the "Agreement on the Establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization," becoming founding members. This marks a significant milestone in China's advocacy and promotion of the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.

Representatives from over 70 countries and international organizations attended the briefing. All parties congratulated the successful holding of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, highly praised President Xi Jinping's important views, propositions, and cooperation initiatives on AI governance, welcomed the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, and looked forward to jointly implementing the cooperation initiatives announced at the conference, supporting developing countries in strengthening capacity building, and achieving inclusive, shared, and win-win cooperation.
